LL-37 is the sole human cathelicidin-derived peptide, a 37-residue fragment released from the hCAP18 precursor. Research has examined its antimicrobial activity against bacterial membranes in vitro alongside its role in innate immune signalling, chemotaxis and wound-model biology. It is widely used as a reference peptide in host-defence and membrane-interaction studies.
